ABLBL is committed to full compliance with the laws of India. The HSN code and the country of origin must be correct, and identical across the Proforma Invoice, the Commercial Invoice and the Certificate of Origin.
Credibility with CustomsAn incorrect declaration costs the trust Customs places in both our organisations.
Held for testingWrong codes are flagged for laboratory testing and physical inspection, and the schedule waits.
DemurrageGoods held at the port collect daily storage charges, and inventory planning fails.
Duty and finesMisclassification means duty is overpaid or underpaid, followed by fines from Customs.
FTA benefitsA wrong code can lose a legitimate benefit, or claim one that does not apply. Neither is acceptable.
Declaring fabric details correctly is a matter of pride for ABLBL and of compliance with the law of the land. Every vendor partner is required to follow it strictly, in the Proforma Invoice and in the Commercial Invoice.
From 638 tariff codes to exactly one.
Seven fabric facts decide an eight-digit HSN code. Watch the Customs Tariff narrow itself, one answer at a time, with the real counts from the engine that runs this site.
What makes it smart
1Predictive orderThe step that decides the next digits moves to the top.
2Only live choicesImpossible options are greyed out, with the reason.
3Next-step forecastShows which answer will fix each digit pair.
4Still possible638 to 119 to 1, shrinking with every click.

The seven facts every fabric line needs
Fabric type, fibres, weight, weave, dye method, coating and pile.
All seven come from you. If one is missing, the code cannot be finalised.
Fabric typeWoven, warp knit, weft knit or coated. State it; never leave it to be guessed from the weave name.Woven fabricKnit fabric, weft knit
Fibre compositionGeneric names, highest share first, totalling 100%. For every man-made fibre, say staple or filament.50% Polyester Staple, 50% Polyester Filament
WeightGrams per square metre for every fabric. Ounces per square yard for denim only.135 GSM
Weave or knit structureFor twills, give the construction and whether it is up to four threads. For knits, say warp or weft first.Twill 2/1Weft knit, single jersey
Dye methodUse the tariff’s word: unbleached, bleached, dyed, yarn of different colours or printed. Never a colour name.Dyed in single colourYarn of different colours
Coating typeFor coated fabrics, name the coating exactly. It moves the fabric to Chapter 59.PU coatedPVC coated
PileFor velvet, corduroy and velour, say cut or uncut, long or looped.Velvet, cut pile
No brand names or short forms. Lycra and Freefit are elastane, Terylene is polyester, Tencel is lyocell, and CO, PES and SP are not fibre names. Write the generic fibre in full.

Ten real lines, and what they should have said
Actual PI lines, the words that cost the code, and the corrected line.
Every line came from a Proforma Invoice. Fabric codes and quantities are removed. The highlighted words are where the code went wrong, and every correction has been checked against the tariff.
A brand name hides the fibre
84%TERELENE 14%RAYON 2%SPANDEX (YARN OF DIFFERENT COLOR)WOVEN DOBBY SUIT FABRIC (GSM:260)
TERELENE: Brand name. Write polyester.
Missing: staple or filament, for every fibre
Terelene is a brand name for polyester, and no fibre says staple or filament. Declared as filament, polyester and elastane together make 86% synthetic filament, which is heading 5407 7x, not 5407 9x.
Declared 5407 93 00Correct 5407 73
84% Polyester Filament, 14% Viscose staple or filament, 2% Elastane, woven, dobby, yarn of different colours, 260 GSM, suiting
CO is a short form, and a twill with no construction is read as more than four threads. The reviewer confirmed a twill of up to four threads, which is 5211 32, not 5211 39.
Declared 5211 39 90Correct 5211 32
55% Cotton, 34% Nylon staple or filament, 11% Elastane, woven, twill up to 4 threads, e.g. 3/1, dyed in single colour, 205 GSM, bottom wear
Two dye methods in one line, and no staple or filament. Declared as staple, bamboo viscose and polyester tie at 48%, and Section XI Note 2(A) then takes the later heading: 5516, not 5515.
“Stable fiber” should read staple. Modal is not viscose rayon, so 5515 11, for polyester mixed with viscose rayon, does not apply. The line is 5515 19.
Declared 5515 11 30Correct 5515 19
73.5% Polyester Staple, 22.7% Modal Staple, 3.8% Elastane, woven, twill 2/1, dyed in single colour, 125 GSM, shirting
Yarn-dyed and single colour at once
100% LINEN PLAIN WEAVE WOVEN SHIRTING FABRIC WITH YARN DYED SINGLE COLOR (GSM:137)
YARN DYED SINGLE COLOR: Two dye methods at once.
“Yarn dyed single colour” mixes two dye methods. One colour is dyed, and 5309 11 covers only unbleached or bleached linen, so the line is 5309 19.
Declared 5309 11 10Correct 5309 19
100% Linen, woven, plain weave, dyed in single colour, 137 GSM, shirting
Dyed, but coded as bleached
100%POLYESTER WARP KNIT SINGLE COLOUR PIECE DYED SHIRTING FABRIC (WIDTH:155)
(WIDTH:155): Width given, weight missing.
Missing: GSM, and staple or filament
The fabric is dyed but was coded on the unbleached-or-bleached line. For synthetic warp knits, 6005 36 is unbleached or bleached; dyed is 6005 37.
Declared 6005 36 00Correct 6005 37
100% Polyester staple or filament, knit fabric, warp knit, dyed in single colour, weight in GSM, shirting
This line was complete. The code was not: bleached linen-cotton is 5309 21, and 5309 29 is for dyed, yarn-dyed or printed. This is the kind of slip the tool catches.
63%TERYLENE 33%RAYON 4%SPANDEX PIECE DYED OF SINGLE COLOR NON TEXTURED (GSM:230)
TERYLENE: Brand name. Write polyester.
NON TEXTURED: Only filament yarn is non-textured.
Missing: the fabric type
No fabric type, and a brand name for polyester. Non-textured describes only filament yarn, so this is Chapter 54, 5407 92, not the staple heading 5515.
Declared 5515 11 30Correct 5407 92
63% Polyester Non-textured Filament, 33% Viscosestaple or filament, 4% Elastane, woven, weave, dyed in single colour, 230 GSM

What happens at PI stage
You declare, ABLBL verifies, you receive a signed PI, bulk documents match.
From 1 September 2026, every Proforma Invoice, Commercial Invoice and Certificate of Origin must carry complete fabric details and the matching HSN code.
You declareThe seven fabric facts and the HSN code, in the PI.
ABLBL checksThe code is verified against the Customs Tariff at PI stage.
ABLBL approvesYou receive a signed, approved copy of the PI.
Documents matchThe Commercial Invoice and Certificate of Origin match the approved PI exactly.
The check relies entirely on the details you declare. Incorrect technical details lead to an incorrect code, so accurate and complete details are the vendor’s responsibility. The full communication, and the penalty clause that applies to mismatches, are in the Training panel.
